This past weekend I headed to Shepherdstown, WV for a conference that I have attended for the past four years. The location is beautiful and every time I have made this trip I have passed a sign for Harper's Ferry. Now, I can remember from my high school American history class that Harper's Ferry was the location of John Brown's famous last stand against slavery, but I didn't know much else about this little town. Well, I also knew there would be passport stamps...
The town was nothing like I expected. It resembled Williamsburg, VA for those of you who have been there. A town leftover from a time gone by, with buildings recreated and actors walking around and playing the part of blacksmiths, travelers and townsfolk.
The weather was amazing and we walked around the little town and then towards the water, where the Shenandoah meets the Potomac River.

So beautiful. Of course, I also got my passport stamps! There were a bunch of them there, including one for the Appalachian Trail, Underground Railroad and C&O canal.
Highly recommend this stop for those of us who love nature and are history buffs!
